There was a story not long ago about a small family that bought a piece of oil rig or something that was off the shores of the UK or something. Since they claimed to be in International waters, they made themselves into their own small nation.
From my last knowledge, they have a data center of sorts on this island. Can anyone tell me the name of this place or a website to them??

Well, I agree, you should use google. I suggest you take little bits of the information of the above and put it in google?

I googled around and what chougard posted was pretty much the only related thing I came across.
It was something about Pirate Bay trying to buy Sealand to create their own nation, and they were offering citizenship to people who donate, but there's no "small family" involved, and I don't think Pirate Bay actually got the island yet.

Yes. There was a "small family" involved. Chougard was correct in what i was looking for. According to their own history information :

Sealand Information said:
This paved the way for occupation. On 2 September 1967, former English major Paddy Roy Bates formally occupied the island and settled there with his family. After intensive discussions with skillful English lawyers, Roy Bates proclaimed the island his own state. Claiming jus gentium, he bestowed upon himself the title of Prince and the title of Princess to his wife and subsequently made the state the Principality of Sealand. Roy Bates, henceforth Roy of Sealand, exerted state authority on the island and thus was an absolute sovereign. The royal family and other persons that have declared loyalty to Sealand have occupied Sealand ever since.
