Hmmm MySQL

Can someone tell me what do I need MySQL for? Am I suposed to be using a login system or a forum inside my website? Because that requires some coding and I think we can get forum like vbulletin whitout the need to use MySQL =S

mySQL is a batabase which the most common forum systems and many other systems (like CMS etc...) use to hold data.

Some software do not need mySQL though, eg, TextFileBB and anything else based of TextFiles like Cutenews

There are free ones:

SMF
PHPBB
YaBB

etc, and also paid for ones

vBulletin
Invision Power Board

to name a few.

Just be careful, if you want to use vBulletin/IPB and you dont pay for it (I.e. use a downloaded version), you will get suspended.
