how do i backup my computer

i got it reformatted lol i lost eveything so now i get em back how do i make a backup or my p[rogram files and windows i tried dragging them into my dvd cd but it gives me an error telling me to retry or skip

Well, there's no real way to save your Windows settings unless you back up and restore your registry, which I do not suggest since it could lead to complications on a new install of Windows.

However, custom themes you've installed can be located in your Windows - Resources folder.

The applications you have installed can not be backed up, their configurations or saved games have the possibility of being backed up - however I suggest reinstalling the applications after a format and reinstallation of the operating system.

You can clone your hard disk, once again I do not suggest this unless you have three hard disks, one with your operating system installed on it (preferably your boot drive) an applications/file drive and a backup drive for the applications/file drive.

i dont have any discks my comp is a OEm windows media center but ym dad wants me to backup the windows files

By 'Windows files' do you mean the actual files inside the C:\WINDOWS folder?

yeha and programed files and all those my dads want to and they cant be copied so yean

You can't make a back up of the C:\WINDOWS or the C:\Programs File folder without running into difficulty. If you have reinstalled Windows than your folders have been reset, I suggest reinstalling your applications.

An external hard disk (they're relatively cheap now for 500GB LaCie at $200) with USB 2.0 will be your best friend while making back ups.

Use a hard disk cloning application although there's no point in backing up your Windows folder.
