I wish there was a basic 'how to' I could find so I didn't have to feel the fool asking these (I'm sure amazingly simple) questions.
But here is my issue.
- I have registered my domain name http://offtherrecordproduction.com.au
- I have linked this with my x10 hosting account so that my domain name in my acc management page lists http://offtherrecordproduction.com.au as my primary domain
But if i try to access http://offtherrecordproduction.com in a browser I get a Server not found error
And if I now try to access my x10 account http://otr.exofire.net i also get a Server not found error. I previously had my site working fine with otr.exofire.net but as soon as I entered my own domain name I could no longer connect.

How do I simply use my own domain name, hosted with x10, not using c-panel, just dreamweaver and an ftp client?

Point the nameservers of your domain to x10 which is...

- ns1.x10hosting.com
- ns2.x10hosting.com

then after you have done that add your domain in your cPanel. And i think before you can add the domain to your cPanel, I think i takes 24-48 hours to take the dns/nameserver change to take effect.

Also, now that I'm using my own domain name, I can no longer log in to otr.exofire.net using an ftp client. Do I now use offtherrecordproduction.com.au? If so what password do I use with it?
Edit:
Thanks Jesse,
I can almost feel you leaning back and muttering urrrgh with this next question but...
How do I point nameservers? I don't use c-panel. Do I have to?
Edit:
Do i have to contact melbourneit.com.au, who I registered my domain with, to point nameservers?

you can access your cPanel at: http://otr.exofire.net:2082/
then use your cpanel username and password.

To point the nameservers of your domain, you need to login your domain from where you bought it then there are options in there.

Regarding your ftp problem, there is an file manager on the cpanel in which where you can upload files.

where is your site hosted? here on x10?

You need to point your domains to ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com. You will need to do that from melbourneit.com.au where you registered the domain.

Step 1 is complete, have pointed name servers to x10. Yes jess, I'm hosted here on x10. I'm not into this whole c-panel thing and like my ftp client, so just the 1 question is left. What details do i use to log in using my ftp client (server, login, pass) now I'm using my own domain name?
Edit:
By the way guys, thanks heaps for your speedy polite help :)

The FTP address will also change to ftp.domainname.com. You will need to configure the login and password from the cPanel.

I have a question regarding this ('cause I have almost the same problems), but I have a domain-name and everything, the thing is: I don't know what I'm supposed to choose... is it "Added domain" or "parked domain" or "redirect"?
And also, this domain is supposed to point to one of my subdomains instead of the entire nexcorp.exofire.net-site. Should I still have the subdomain or should I remove it and just point to the "public_html/djopposite"-folder?

If you want it to point it to a subfolder, then you should set it as "Addon Domain", which allows you to do this.
If you want it to point it to your public_html, then add it in "Parked Domains".

Okay, I'll try that. Thanks :)
Edit:
Okay, now it got complicated... I've added djopposite.se as "Addon domain", and it works like a charm, except the fact that when anyone enters djopposite.se the adress changes to djopposite.nexcorp.exofire.net.
How do I make it not do that? (sorry for the lack of better words, english is not my first language).

I've been following this thread since I have to do the same project for my site as well, and just wanted to say Thanks(!) for putting it in terms I could understand.
