How much money to people generally make off of advertising through websites anyways? I get the feeling its only a few dollars a month...

It really depends on what your site has on it and therefore how many people actually visit your site.
It might take years to start making money on a site through ads but if it becomes popular you can actually make a fair bit, more than a few dollars a month.

It will also depend a bit on which ads provider you are using.

Remember that for providers such as google adsense you have to wait until you have $100 before you get anything.

IT all depends on how much traffic you get, if you get like 1 user per day, you're not getting much if any money from ads

like mike said...if your website is popular you get more ads/donations, then you get more money...with more money you get more advertisments to your site which mean more traffic..ect.
