I had a hard difficulty adding the google analytics code into my forum. no matter where i put that code, it would always result into an error. I work with SMF so this may not be guaranteed with others but I'm sure it will work. First of all, the code google analytics gives you is HTML. The code forums are coded in are HTML. Unless you rearrange the code it is bound to not work. I have developed a solution however.
The following is a step by step tutorial on how to add google analytics to SMF
Matt,
Rep Me If this Helped you I'm only partly kidding
The following is a step by step tutorial on how to add google analytics to SMF
- Get google analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics)
- Once you have google analytics, register a website
- Copy the code they give you
- If SMF User skip to 6. Use the following solutions to add a code into your forum as an add (https://x10hosting.com/forums/tutorials/40058-request-how-insert-ads-tutorials-here.html)
- If not SMF User skip to 10
- download ad management mod (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=255)
- Install and incorporate manually if need be.
- add your google analytics code to your website in the form of an add. If in SMF use ad content management, create new add, and make sure which boards it should be in is blank. Number of ads with posts and categories is 1. Make sure its set to html and every option below that is selected.
- go to settings and disable "Ads within posts look like actual posts" or else it will look sloppy. It is not invisible yet working
- Your website should be good to go. Double check everything and make sure there are no spaces and everything looks the same as it was before adding google analytics. This however, should not be the case. Congrats, have fun with analytics from google
- Oh yes, don't forget to start checking your stats by signing in at http://www.google.com/analytics
