There are many ways to put a Content to your site. The easiest way is to install a CMS (Content Management System). If you have a little knowledge on html and CSS you may do it by your self without using a CMS.

Dude they already told you... You either write your own template using css or something, and then edit your content. You gotta know how ftp and many other aspects of the server work. Apparently you don't know. Let me refer you to a great website that'll help! CLICK ME!!!
After you learn coding, then put it to use.
OR, do what they said, and install the CMS!!!
