htpasswd

Hey,

I'm just fiddling really and trying to get htpasswd/htaccess to work. I want to do it the long way around and not use the CPanel to set up directory passwords.

Just wondering about creating the htpasswd file, how do I encrypt the passwords and where is the file supposed to be stored?

Hmm yes sorry I was just confused with what encryption we use, but I got that sorted now. Thanks.

Anyway my next issue is now that i put the .htpasswd file in the /home/warnox/.htpasswd and the htaccess in the public_html folder with the content:

AuthUserFile /home/warnox/.htpasswd
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Special People Only"
<LIMIT GET POST>require valid-user</LIMIT>

and now I cannot access my website at all. Internal server error.

Why don't you try to put what's in the tutorial I just gave you?
