avast! (http://avast.com/) use the boot time scan to clear any trojans and worms along with Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware to clean your system of adware and spyware and too be on the safe side use Merlin's HiJack This!.

That's all I can think of.

also, try to change the file name, reboot, and try deleting, you should be successful if you can change the file name

Try Xoftspy
http://www.paretologic.com/xoftspy/se/newlp/xray/?uid=cv2m4
Its very sensitive and workes well. Just make sure you check and see just what it wants to clean as i nearly cleaned quite a few products that i use the first time i ran it. i believe there is a crack if you cant afford it but am not sure if it works or not id recommend just buying it if you can afford it :)

First, before Windows XP loads, boot into Safe Mode.

You can do this by pressing F5 (or if that doesn't work, try other F-keys near F5) BEFORE the Windows XP loading screen shows up and you should see a menu. Select "Safe Mode" from there.

Once XP loads in Safe Mode, you can use whatever software you wish that works to delete that rogue file.

safe mode doesn't always work as it just loads windows without loading certain files, which is why you cant uninstall most programmes under it, it also wont fix the problem if the virus/adware wrote to the registry and we all know thats a place you dont want to be messing unless you know what your doing and have LOTS of time to spare or you could mess up your O/S better then any virus.

If the virus is restricted to just your account then you could logon as the comp administrator and delete it if you know the admin password. to login as the administrator just log out (Logout NOT shutdown) hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice input the name administrator and the password windows setup asked you for while installing into the login box.

Id say use that as a last resort if i was you.

But playing in the registry is fun! ;)

Try HijackThis, and find a HijackThis log analyzer online.
