I found a file called "core.7914" on my public_html that I didn't upload. Can someone shed some light on this. Could it be that someone managed to hack in to my ftp and uploaded it and that it's a virus of some kind?

I dont know exactly and i could be wrong, but maybe it's just a misplaced file, supposed to be in another place?

How would a file get misplaced? I never even touched anything that I didn't think I should touch. O_O

Remember the name of it, then rename it. If you don't notice anything weird/different/bad happening, then I would just delete it.

I remember finding some of those on my site once.. That's what I did.

Alright, thanks NedreN... I wanted to check whether it was a file that was entered into our servers by admins and wasn't meant to be touched. =p

Seems to me like a temp. file or something.

Do you run any php scripts or anything from the 'public_html' folder?
If so, it could be a file auto-created by it, but, do try NedreN's solution to see if it is actually needed.

Usually files with extension of 123423 are some temporary files, used either for uploads or things like that, that may have been interupted.
