Hey guys,

I was wondering if it is possible to set the default files that appear in the brand new accounts that are created etc.

If so, do you think it would be a good idea, to include the zip containing the ads in it...

However, if you think this is a bad idea, just post a reply telling me why!

I believe it is possible to create a file containing the ads when a new account is created. The problem I see in it though is two fold:

1. Some new users aren't very adept in using FTP of .zip files, and they might not know what they are for.
2. Even if the ads were placed in the accounts by default, most would still come to the forums asking how to put the ads on their pages, like they do now.

Having the ads installed by default would just be one more thing for admins to keep track of when adding/removing/changing user accounts.

lol

I can see your point of view, I just thought having them there, all ready in the account, might just make it easier for some people.

I dunno!

Post your oppinions

Maybe a big ole READ_ME_OR_ELSE.txt file in the public_html directory explaining the importance of the ads and the consequences of not having them in the correct places.

I don't think a ZIP would be too effective, because you'd have to download it, decompress it, then you have a new folder that you probably don't want, etc. A text file of some sort I think would be the most effective.

How about this?

Why not create a php or html file as an index in the public_html of every new account, saying things like "Welcome to x10Hosting", "Here is how you put up your ads and how they work!", "Check the news on the forums now and sign up," yadda, yadda, yadda, etc...

In other words, the x10Hosting activation security script (email confirmation link) would test your new site by linking to this php or html-driven file. It could have a nice x10-Hosting layout, like the official site or the vBulletin source code of the forum. Possibility?

Doesn't sound bad. Are you refering to the page that appear when you create and account and try accessing it?

Wow this has evolved slightly.

I think that, you should have a default page or something, that says, like mentioned in the earlier post,

Welcome to x10 hosting.

Here are the two types you have to place on your site:

etc,

just basically make it like a friendly, introduction to x10 with help on how to install the ads etc.

Then place a link to the forums etc, and put it all in a very nice layout.

I can try and design one for you if you want to look....

Ill post back with link.

Nick, works well, gets the point across. Why not get the source of the ads page, with x10Hosting vBulletin layout (Right Click >> View Source) and copy your info to the ads box, and there is the x10Hosting junk. Just change the vBull links in under the logo to "cPanel" (a PHP-site-compliant cPanel link), a "Terms" link, "ads code" link, etc, etc, for those who do not want to read it. Think of a played out x10 Manual, similar to things like manuals for IPB or the like (with a nav menn, but with "Continue" or "back" at the bottom)! Awesome!!!

The site looks good. I would center it thought. And that first sentance is very long. Consider splitting it up into two or more sentances.
