I need help with public viewing of my page

My site doen't work right. If i add a page and link it from the index page, only the index page shows right, and the other page shows as html. In the file manager the index page icon has a page and an earth but the other page only has the page. i was very careful about setting the filetype to html. in the html editor it shows fine. Does anyone know why or how to fix it?

Now it is really messed up. How do i get it to go straight to the index page and how do i get it to display as a web page instead of html. also, when changing file permissions what does user, group and world mean and whats the difference beetween read and execute? i have tried ticking execute for user group and world but it doesn't change anything.

By the looks you have no index
name index to index.html

Set file permission to 755

tick the top 3 the 1st one in second row and tick the bottom 3
