For anyone encountering the same issue... I hadn't been able to receive emails through the webmail interface icon on CPanel since I set up my account. Only today have I really needed to use the email and so to debug the issue, I did the usual trying to send test emails and in the process I learned that I could actually send emails from my account (which I wasn't aware) but I just couldn't receive them (or so I thought). The problem is that I log into my cPanel using my username and apparently if I click the "webmail" icon on cPanel, I'm automatically logged in to webmail using that exact login (i.e., using my username). Logged into webmail this way, none of the emails sent to my account show up in the inbox; but, if I log out of the webmail client (to the page asking for my email address/password) and manually log in (using my email address and not my username), the emails show up in my inbox as expected. So I added a bookmark to that webpage to my browser... Hope this helps someone.
