i have been trying to configure my windows mail (vista) to imap with my email address simon@eneverdesign.com

using the manual settings (as the auto didnt work) was slightly confusing as it doesnt obviously state what to type into the slected areas.

so here is what i have in each field...

email address : simon@eneverdesign.com
incoming server : imap
incoming mail (imap) : cossacks.x10hosting.com
outgoing mail (smtp) : mail.eneverdesign.com
email username : simon+eneverdesign.com
(remember my password is tickes, 'logon using Secure password protection' is not)
my server requires auth : ticked
outgoing mail (SMTP) : 25 (SSL not ticked) (although i want ssl if poss)
incoming mail (imap) : 143 (SSL not ticked) (although i want ssl if poss)

i can recieve emails fine, imap okay (although the only folders i have are "inbox" and another folder i created myself , which may just be all i get anyway?) however it will not send email. following error comes up.

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'enever [design]', Server: 'mail.eneverdesign.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

i am sure it is just a wrong setting somehwere along the line.

sorry to be a pain!

I can't see anything wrong with your config (But that doesn't help you doesit?)
It could be something to do with a blocked port (From a quick search on Google).

Try going through your config and check everything matches the config in cPanel.

i can send mail absolutely fine on webmail though.

i dont think it is a case of being "iffy"

could someonw who has imap working, or an admin or someone look at the settings i have ticked above and tell me if i have them all right.

ideally i want to use SSL, but i dont mind not if it is a big problem. but i found the manual instructions confusing as the port numbers didnt make sense. the "143" for the imap for instance wasnt mentioned anywhere, i found that in another message, and i just think that i have a random blend of SSl settings and non!?

could someonw please help

I used to use IMAP, but I don't any more because I found it unreliable.

I remember I used SSL for all servers, but I can't remember the port numbers. I also used Mozilla Thunderbird, So I not really sure about the settings needed.

Unless you really need IMAP, I suggest using POP3. It's more reliable an simpler to setup.

but am i right in thinking that using pop3, if i read a message on webmail, it will not dowload into my email client when "at home". i need to use folders quite a bit in my emailing so imap is pretty essentual i think.

im sure there must be an easy way of getting round this.

its all working fine apart from that error message

Using pop3, an e-mail will only be download if you run you e-mail program.
But you can set it to leave a copy of the message on the server if you want.

I'm sorry but I can't help any more than this. Hope you get it working.
