Inexperienced and need help

I signed up for the ad free hosting under a specific user name, then followed directions and set up the forum account with a separate user name. I seem unable to make the required link to the C account. I type in the username, which I assume is the host account user name, and it says it does not exist. As a result, no registration email and no ability to go forward. What did I miss?
