I will definitely choose Intel Core2 Quad this is because it will allow me to run more application , more games, faster processing of data rendering.

Intel creates anything has a reason behind due to market demands for faster and faster processing speed, the Intel Core2 Duo has it limitations therefore they create a better chip to support the market demand and also to improve the current Intel Core2 Duo technology in this new Intel Core2 Quad.

To attractive more MNCs to get their product they have to keep updating themselves.

There is a reason as to why we are being given dual, quad and more cores rather than single cores with higher speeds but that does not mean they are better than single cores, if we could get the speed, I think IBM had a single core running at 6 GHz, I would go for a single core.

Although Intel says that they allow to run more applications , more games, faster processing etc, how many software developments actually support parallel processing?

In benchmarks the quad would be better so if you can afford a quad get one.But otherwise I would be happy with a dual. (or a very fast Single core)

Quad for me, even if the software itself does not support parallel processing, it still enables you to run more programs at the same time (and most new software at least supports threading, which means different threads can be handled by different CPUs, not effectively w/o native support but still an improvement).

Quad is the better of the two, but I'm an AMD guy so I would tell you to get a Athlon64x2 or an Opteron

Depends on which model; pro about quad cores is that they have an 8 MB L2 I believe, whereas the highest duo I have seen is 4 MB. I figure, the more cores the better!

It depends on what you want, for raw power without a budget, quad core, but for value for money, a dual core is cheaper and can be overclocked.

quad cores can also be overclocked (high powered cooling system is a must), and from what I've seen, most quad cores are faster than the dual cores. The only reason not to get a quad core over a dual core is the price (of course, that can be a pretty big factor). But depending on what you're doing, there are instances where a really fast single core would be better.
