If he truly was a classy player surely he would not have stooped to the level of violence. As far as i could see there was an exchange of words, which warrants a strong headbut to the chest? (and yes it was a strong headbut, i saw the replays! lol) as a professional he should be above that sort of thing. he finished his career in a pretty crappy way. although france were the better side for most of the game i'm glad italy won. (not just because of the headbut incident)
