I realise that this won't appeal to a lot of people here. I mean, the fact that we're all on Free Hosting plans may be an indication of the amount we're willing to spend, and whenever software recommendation questions come up in these fora, the word "free" almost always figures into the question, doesn't it? Be that as it may; this is worth reporting in any case -- I expect it will be more interesting to pros and aspiring pros than to hobbyists.
I've been using PhpStorm for a while, mostly because I used to work with the IntelliJ Java IDE from the same company. I was familiar with the layout and workflow, and preferred IntelliJ to the Eclipse environment I also used. It's a lot faster, more responsive, and less resource-hungry IME. Well, today I got an update notification, and upgraded from version 2.1.5 to 3.0. Holy (and wholly) amazing IDE goodness, Batman!
For any pros out there, particularly independents, it's worth checking out. You know what you need and want; I'm not going to spend any time trying to sell you something you don't need. There's a 30-day free trial; you can decide for yourself whether or not it's worth the license cost to you. If you use CoffeeScript, LESS or SASS in addition to the expected vanilla PHP, HTML, JavaScript (including common libraries, of course) and CSS, well, that's all in there. If you do OO, you might like the new UML class diagrams (including the ability to refactor right from the UML). If you work with others using a CVS like git, the semantic commit diff indicators at the UML level are a great overview on changes. And there's an interesting new DRYness feature that I'm sure can help your code and application structure (I know I can use it, but that may have something to do with my old man's waning memory).
Again, your call. I don't get anything for posting this; there's nothing affiliate-like going on. I'm just really impressed with the upgrade, and I thought you might like to know.
