hi i have to have a text based add on my website and av tryed making a banner with it on i was wondering if anyone knew where be the best place to put it in joomla thanks

Use the Banner Module. It is pre-installed in 1.0, not sure what version your using though.
Your template has to be able to support it also.
Otherwise, place it below the header.
