I've finally decided I wanted Joomla as my CMS, so I installed it with Fantastico, but I didn't really like the included templates, so I went and downloaded a template called "JS LunarEclipse", that is supposed to be compatible with the version Fantastico installed. I'm pretty wary of any sort of GZip compression by now, so I unzipped the theme to a folder and uploaded it to the default theme installation directory, according to the Joomla manual. But after installing, my page shows up incorrectly (plain white with text, no images, no formatting, etc.). So I tried a few more, and NONE of them worked either (the default one works fine). I have a feeling that it may be a simple URL/path setting that is messing me up, but after several attempts, I have not been able to get any of the templates working. Any help on this?

I would go back and consult on the Author of the template. Normally they have exceptional template installation methods.

Well, the author is Joomlashack, and according to their instructions, I did everything right. Is it possible that Fantastico put a setting in incorrectly during installation?
Edit:
Does ANYBODY have Mambo or Joomla installed with a custom skin? Anyone at all?

You might want to try the site management section as a lot of members don't read the support forums.

I am here to save the day. I know exactly what you have encountered. Anyhoo, you sometimes need to think outside the box.

All you have to do is CHMODD ALL of your uploaded custom template folders/sub-folders to 755. (It's set as 744 by default.) This should fix the problem. ;) Try pressing Ctrl + F5 to hard refresh your page or clear your browser cache to see the result.

P.S. You need to CHMODD your new uploaded Components, Modules, or Mambots to 755 otherwise NONE of them will work.
