Yes, a desktop will always cost you cheaper....I use one, but it's mostly because I don't have cash to buy a laptop, and to run games you would need a high end laptop, so I am using a desktop as of now....but given the option I would opt for a laptop, since my desktop is used by my whole family....

Where's the option for both?

The ideal situation (which isn't that hard if you're good at saving a bit of money) is to have a desktop at home (for games, heavy programming, maybe hooked up to some nice speakers) and a smallish laptop to carry around / surf the Internet on.

With the proper resources you can have them share their files electronically and automatically so your "My documents" are never out of sync and you don't have to manually transfer them.

If you don't have the money though, desktop by far. Plus usually you can use an old monitor from a previous desktop on your new desktop (which is saving at least a $100!).

It all depends on the use you want to put into.
for example
Lets say you want to work during commuting then Laptop will be a good option otherwise desktop is better since upgrading will be good.

Desktop > laptop in all aspects other than portability (of course). I lugged my desktop to college due to the fact I just can't stand laptops!

I use a laptop, (A MacBook Pro to be exact), but when I get home, I plug my flat screen, keyboard and mouse into it to make it a "desktop" so its both for me.

Yeah, I think some poll ideas are getting recycled. I voted for desktop for reasons stated in the other thread.

Should this not be closed due to it being a duplicate of an exsiting thread?

Yeah, we know that, dude. However, it is slightly annoying to the members who come across it. You will not be punished, but you will probably have this poll closed. It's okay, no big loss ^^ Just post another poll!

My vote for Laptop.
Because it is very easy to carry one place to another place.

I have a desktop.. But I am getting a laptop soon.
There are some disadvantages of using a laptop, the main one being you can't upgrade it as freely as a desktop.
But the mobility is just great.. You can take your computer with you anywhere and use it.
I am wondering why I got a desktop computer in the first place, as I need to travel and work in other places with my computer.
And if you can afford it, you can even get reasonably good gaming laptops.
Trust me, if you are not that concerned about money and you think that you might need to move around in the future, get a Laptop!

Eveyone talks about laptops being expensive. If you get them for the right place, you can get one for almost the same as a desktop. Yes maybe I could have doubled my specs on a desktop for the price, but now I have double the convenience and fun.
