Login Using php

Hello Sir,
I am new to PHP, though i have experience in java and .net a little bit. In php is it possible to implement form based authentication for login. That is allocating different user with different categories and giving appropriate rights to pages. Right now i am going to start the coding for that. Is there any form type authentication avaiable or should i build table accoring to that.

My control panel username is klnce but it is not working. I thought of complainin but i forgot.please check towards it
