mail() PHP function

I have a form on my website using the php mail() function to send a message to my google email address. When I tested it 2 weeks ago it worked fine. Now when I try even the simplest PHP mail() script the browser takes ages to process the script then returns mail() false?

Has something changed with your servers?
Or is it just maintenance?

Anyone? It still isn't working (it worked fine before!). Is there anyone with a free hosting account for which mail() works fine?
