Making an alternative domain my 'main' domain - Newbie Query

Hi,

I have a website with x10hosting (mywebsite.x10host.com) and I wanted to transfer (not just forward) this website to my own newly purchased domain (mywebsite.co.uk) - and completely remove mywebsite.x10host.com from the picture.

Firstly, can someone confirm that this is actually possible?

If so, I have made some changes that I would like to confirm if they are the correct way to do so, but if someone could confirm what I am trying to do is actually achievable

add your domain to your account as a [ addon ] - it will have its own folder(s) and files

Wouldn't I add it as a parked domain? as I am trying to replicate what is already on my 'mywebsite.x10host.com'

Oh ok got it, I thought it was a step by step process rather than two options.

Great, I had previously set the domain to forward. Now I have set it as a parked domain, but when I go to mywebsite.co.uk it still forwards to mywebsite.x10host.com. It's been a few hours, how long should I expect to wait before the changes show?

I have tried it on a computer with a cleared cached also.

IF you are using a CMS - you might need to change the URL in its int file to your new domain name

I am using WordPress so I think that may be where I'm getting stuck. I'll look into how I can change the URL, thanks a lot for all your help

Just an update to anyone reading:

After the above steps, I went into the admin side of WordPress > Settings > General:
Then I updated the following options:
WordPress Address (URL)
Site Address (URL)

And this has now updated both the admin side and the website front to use the new host website address (mywebsite.co.uk)
