MediaWiki malfunction (giving 500 internal server error)

I am getting a 500 Internal Server Error every time I try to connect to my MediaWiki wiki (only via the index.php script though, accessing any other part of it works just fine :nuts. I have tried everything I could think of: reinstalling the wiki, re-uploading the files, commenting out my .htaccess, re-creating the db, re-creating the db user... but nothing worked. Is there something I overlooked?

It is probably because you don't have an index.html page, please insert an index.html page and see if it works.

Ok, the problem arised because the wiki's directory was strangely chmodded to 777 (weird, because I definately did not set that). Reset that to 755 and everything went back to normal

Note to self: cPanel's error log thingy is your friend.
