Ok, i was going to post this in the staff forums, but i thought it might be good for the public to see it too.

I was wondering if i could accept uploads on my website, but they are moderated (They only appear when i have gone into admin and clicked ok). How about this corey?

Hmmm.....
Tough one, I think the fact there is a file upload form accessible by the public is enough for the auto-check script to suspend it, so I'd say no, but i'm not sure though. All I know is as soon as I see a way for people to upload files I immediately suspend it.

Hmm, dunno at the mo. I think that it only warns that there are file uploads (And anyway, it will be only accessible by members so the script wont be able to access it). I dunno, ill wait for an answer from Corey or the other dude (I forget his name ARRGH :p) oh yeh, Bryon.

@nol8888 : Public FIle Upload is not allowed, cPanel and ftp are fine

I think the answer to this would have to be no, because if somehow somebody gets your password or hacks your script, they could upload files.

The Best way to do this would be to make a staff ftp account that can access the directorey in quetion, and use that;)

What about a forum that features an attachment system? Would it be alright if forum members could upload files (with a size limit, and only specific types allowed) and attach them to their posts as long as they are not illegal?

if its for legal images, like desktop backrounds, or small files like under 1 MB or 2 I would say that is fine, but make it so users with over 50 posts can upload, as then n00bs acant go on, upload porn and leave.

Ummm... Not much bandwidth...

Brandon: I guess yeah, regular members are only allowed to attach 500 kb max size files.

I'm just a little confused. Since I'm still in the "alpha" stages of planning of web site, and am considering hosting it here, I just want to be clear on some stuff. :) ((Not that I can actually code the things I want right away.. har har -.- ))

When we're speaking about public uploading, is this like something like a public gallery or depository, like DeviantArt (public gallery) or MudMagic (large public depository for snippets and distributionable MUD codebases)?

What's the difference between the above and forum-based uploading? How about uploading personal avatars?

I've seen a few sites that allow visitors to modify or completely upload new html pages (think, wiki or wiki-based).

Yeh i think forum avatars are allowed, as well as forum attachments, but im going to be allowing people to upload windows "Utilities" and stuff (zips).

Just follow these rules:
1.) No anonymous uploads
2.) Uploads must be directly related to your site. Windows site => Uploads about windows. Not uploads for cracked games.
3.) Large files aren't allowed to be hotlinked from another site.
4.) Small files like avatars, etc are always allowed as long as it's not for some type of file hosting only.
