Hi all,
I am sure this has been discussed in the past on x10, and I have seen the poll results that lean towards including Ruby support, but I think I am in a fairly unique position that allows me to make a somewhat unbiased opinion. I have been working with Ruby for a fairly short length of time, and was hoping I would find support for embedded ruby (.rhtml) at x10. Being new to web development I was hoping to leverage what little I know about Ruby to help balance out what I didn't know about web development. Not finding Ruby support, I was forced to embark on learning PHP (not a bad skill to have under your belt). Being fairly knew to both PHP and Ruby, I can say that if PHP was easier, I would abandon using Ruby for web development all together. In fact I intend to get a firm grip on PHP primarily because it is used so much. But having the opportunity to have a good look at both PHP and Ruby, I can say without reservation that Ruby offers a versatility and flow that PHP can not rival. I am sure that those who have been using PHP since Al Gore invented the internet will disagree. But I am equally sure that those who are familiar with both Ruby and PHP will agree that Ruby has some undeniably strong advantages over PHP. If x10 never gets Ruby support, thats fine with me. I enjoy the challenge of learning something new. But if x10 does get Ruby support, you will be at the tip of the spear in a number of beneficial ways.
