As far as I know, these two websites are the largest community over the internet. I have both Myspace & Friendster account and like to make new friends on both site, join a specific group, add fave bands, etc. Question is, which one is better?
If there's any similar type of website, post the link and short description.

Well, there is another ... but its more adult themed ( allows only 18+ ) which is http://www.fubar.com

With all the problems myspace has had, with people hacking accounts to post silly bulletins, I would lean more towards Friendster, but rarely use it.

I don't think people can hack the myspace server, it's most likely phishing. I think one time my friend showed me a 5 megabyte text file full of myspace ids and passwords.

I myself prefer 8apps because myspace is crowded with useless pages (jstoppi - 10 Reasons I Didn't Start a MySpace Account)

8apps is more for like business contacts and relationships, it seems. Myspace is more of the social network. But yeah, I agree with you on the Myspace. Just sad. Myspace was a good place.

I guess all websites once they get popular will suffer from spam, but myspace is just doing nothing to stop them.

Same fate is for phpBB, because of large amount of users, there are more bad users, who try to exploit it. If it wouldn't be so popular, then it would be just like smf or any other forum system

I would have my own option "Who cares about both of them?!"

I found it interesting in just this last year that whenever the local (or even national) news reports on a person whom they are unable to reach, they consult that person's myspace page. Odd, isn't it? They even say: We were unable to reach so-and-so for comment but looking at their myspace page... xyz... Well I guess since most people who use myspace post a lot of personal info on the site... including a personal blog, people could mine these myspace pages for information about people.

... A darker side is that a lot of teenagers and adolescents use myspace indiscriminately without thought of their personal safety. I've seen a feature on the news show 20-20 which followed a police officer who specialized in fighting cybercrime. He showed how over the progress of several months, he was able to infiltrate the circles of several teens and even got them to agree to meet him in person... alone. This was, however because the girls were under the impresson that they were meeting up with some cute "college age" guy.

Despite its shortcomings, I'll say that I vote for MySpace. It has infiltrated the net and society in general with its pervasiveness. So many people know about it and so many people use it. It has the gift of *buzz*. Friendster is out there, has nice features but it does not have as much meda or societal *buzz*. People don't talk about it the same way. Another for the bandwagon... *ding*!

I go Bebo - Its more popular in the UK (according to several statistics which I found on google) and seeing as that is where I live.

Also it's layout and that is,. by default more attractive than myspace's. Finally the way you change your layout than that results in cleaner code than in Myspace (CSS halfway through the page - i mean what's up with that?!) and it also ensures that you can actually READ peoples profile without permanently damaging my eyes and ears.

It also provides many themes which you can use, created by other users straight on their site - so you don't need to google for Layout generator.

If you want something unique they provide a nicely detailed skin specification and guide as to what their CSS values affects - so it's easy to make your own skin from scratch.

Well I think myspace is better only because of the ease of use especially for the younger crowd like my little sister in law who doesnt really know too much HTML or anything.

About 2 months ago, Myspace have some spam issue, abusive accounts, etc. But now they're already fixed it and improved the pagerank.
What makes different about Myspace than Friendster or any other similar site is, in Myspace there's Artist/Band profile where lots of popular artists/bands have their own public profile outside their official website. It's good for their promotion.

i got with myspace, only because it the one i use :p. Also, most of the people i know use it. Then again, most of the people i know dont use either so its kinda a waist of time. And myspace is a more known site so its good to promote our band :)

I've never heard of friendster until right now. Facebook is what I've found to be the best "technically" and is great for sharing photos. Myspace, despite it's flaws, is the best for spying on people and it's popularity make it worth using.

I really don't like any of those social networking sites.

I had a MySpace for about a year, and all there seemed to be was little emo-kids posting about how much their lives suck and people who I thought were cool, posting surveys which seemed to point otherwise.

It's just a place for idiots to cause drama. Well, at least for high-schoolers.

hao!

having friends who never shared time with me, talked to me, blah.. blah..

I think friendster and myspace are fine, there's also xanga etc. but I find owning a site to host a blog, or anything I want is way better. Freedom++
