I prefer ATi, but with AMD and ATi possibly merging I must go to the nVidia camp since I hate AMD processors.

Nah you won't need something THAT high end; I've got a rather cheap low end nVidia FX5200 (128 MB dedicated), and it works fine. Just don't try playing Halo with that graphics card.

I hate ATi's video cards for one reason: horrible Linux drivers. NVIDIA's are much better, so if anyone plans to play games on Linux then NVIDIA is your best option.

Unless you think that ATi being owned by AMD will affect the quality of the video cards, that doesn't seem like a good reason to switch. I'm still using AMD64 (because I like it) even though I hate ATi.

Were do you get your nVidia drivers, when I install any Linux distro, X always crashes.

I've been using mine from XFX for over a month, you wont be disappointed. And about the size of it, I can't fit a 4th hard drive in my comp for that reason. Now to wait for the 8900/8950.

From what i've read about the 8900's, they aren't going to be any more "powerful" or "better" than the 8800's, it's just going to be a better deal for the customer, as in you get more for your money. They are also smaller though, which could play a role in the cost.
