I am not very good with tutorials, because a lot of my sigs I just play around until I get what I like. I use the smudging technique a lot, and when I do use brushes I get them from deviantart.

I have several packs by alias, you can check his out here.

If I need a brush then I mainly choose based on the thumbnails, it is much easier to find the look that will work how you want it to. You can browse the list here.
