Well, I would like to address an issue with this site in regards to installing of vBulletin.

I uploaded all of the files minus two XML files in the /install file. I have a forum with the same name as my username here, and I would like to know why it is physically impossible to install a vBulletin program if there's a limit on filesizes here?

I created an Advanced account initially, but the development that requires a new forum is pretty much URGENT, so I needed a quick fix. Localhost won't work, because I need members to be able to see it and post in it. Zeeblo doesn't work for me because it takes bloody ages to activate an account. I have no server space of my own, so I had to come here.

The lottery thing you have going on here isn't fun for a whole lot of members I imagine, and I cannot find another free CPanel host out there. It's unbelievably hard to find an instant activation one. I need this done, and very quickly. Can someone provide some assistance please?

It is very possible to install vBulletin here at x10. Many members have, if you had done a search, you would have seen that. Also, there is no file size limit to my knowledge. If you want a free "Instant Activation" forum check

http://www.forumer.com/ or
http://www.forumhoster.com/ or
http://www.jconserv.net/

If you don't know how to properly install vBulletin, that's your problem and in no way reflects the service here at x10. Maybe you should try another forum application if it's that important. You should check out the two forum options under Fantastico in cPanel;

PHPBB
SMF

Anyone can set those boards up on their accounts because it's automatic. If cPanel were so important for you, you should know that features like Fantastico are offered.

Please do not patronise me, I implore you. I have been working with (and on) vBulletin for four years. I have run vBulletin forums which far exceed this one in every single way. I know how to upload and install them, it's the fact I stated before that with Instant accounts, I can't exceed 1MB file uploads. If I had no problems, I wouldn't be posting about it.

It's not the forum I am after, it's the software. I'm working on a skin for a forum, and I want the members of the forum in question to be able to see it and look at it in real time. It's vBulletin, which I cannot seem to upload here. phpBB is awful in my opinion, and I don't have the time nor the effort to get to know SMF. You can't skin a vBulletin forum on any other software.

I would appreciate very much if a STAFF member got back to me on this issue. If it requires me to pay to get some kind of quick progress going here, then fine.[

i belive you are saying that you cant put a forum on the instant hosting account right? well if you look at the news here you would know that if you introduced youraelf on the forum you could get a bypass code for one of the normal x10 free hosting plans.

If there were no limits on the Instant Hosting package then the servers would be more swamped than they already are. If you'd like to upload larger files you can purchase hosting or apply for free hosting (see the offer Jake mentioned).

Theres three types of accounts, Instant, Free, Paid..

If oyu have an instant account then you will need a free or paid account for what you are trying to do if you have a free account and your having this problem it must be something on your end I.e: your FTP?

Ive been able to put up an IPB, vBulletin, phpBB, SMF forum on this hosting service. There doesnt seem to be anything wrong with it.

But like Phil tried says, you might not have an account type that is capable of doing what you want to do.

No, apparently not.

http://amftest.x10hosting.com/forums/index.php

Why is it doing this? It is prompting me to download every single file I navigate to. This isn't my end, and I am not prepared to pay money for what will be a two-week intensive project then occasional updating/development work. Can anyone help with this?

See if you can get your instant hosting account deleted. Then introduce yourself, must be a well-thought out introduction, then you might be able to get a code to bypass the drawing for websites. Rince, lather, repeat. (<- Don't mind that part. :) :wavey: )

To disable the gzip, you will need to access the admin control panel (should still be able to run) and turn it off in the configuration.

It isnt anything to do with the account type I dont think, you can get by without changing your account type :)

Trust me. I would love to see you to get to the admin panel when it has been proven that it is a problem with the gzip. You don't have to change account type or anything.

Just follow those directions and it will work again

ah this is a problem with the gzip on the server. Here is a link to help you with that problem

http://forums.x10hosting.com/showthread.php?t=14122

Also I can help you if you get stuck or have problems
EDIT:

That fixed the problem for all of... about 10 minutes.

Then I made the mistake of allowing plugins to be enabled, and I went back to the old problem. Now, the gzip line isn't there in the Datastore options code.

I am just going to uninstall and reinstall.

EDIT2: OMFG! Now "gzipoutput" is completely gone from the Options table! Could I have someone who knows about this PM me please? This is too much hassle for a free hosting space.
