Is there any way to get it so that you can have the Themes and Packages for SMF be on a different server than the server SMF is on?

Cause I have another server that I can use. I am just trying to help out x10Hosting with the problems...

Any help will be greatly appreciated...

Well there should be some way...

Cause in the settings it shows you where they are located, so there must be some way to change the location of them.

You could try to upload those two folders from your current SMF install to another server and then use repair_settings.php to change the paths to those to folders to point to the new server:

You will find the repair_settings tool on this page:

http://www.simplemachines.org/download/?tools

After you have the Themes and Packages folder moved to another server upload that file to the root of your SMF install and point your browser to it; and you will see a place to change the paths to their new location. This should work but I can't garrentee it. I think their is a post on SM about this though; someone asked about it not to long ago.

Yeah I tried that before seeing your post and I get an error from SMF cause it thinks thats the wrong directory for the themes and it gets annoying...
So I just down graded to 1.1.2 on my other server and I am just gonna run SMF on it.

But thanks for helping me out with this. I think the best way to do this would be to look at all the scripts and change where it looks for the themes and whatnot. So that it can pull it off the right way without problems.

I do believe there is a way to do this. If you search the simple machines site. I know I have seen a way to do it; and just recently I might add. Someone was trying it out.

I don't really suggest downgrading your version of SMF or running a copy that is not up to date. You should run the SMF 1.1.4 if anything.

Yeah, on my main website, the hosting company has no upgraded to the newest version of PHP and MySQL so I can't use the lastest version of SMF, 1.1.2 is the newest version I can fun on there servers.

I can't run 1.1.4 If I install 1.1.4 then I get log into the admin panel, which is required for me to do, well anything.

Thats not x10hosting your talking about but a different host. ??? If it is a different host I would get away from them ASAP older versions of php have bugs and errors in it hence the upgrades to it. I would say that that server is not very secure. If it is x10 you are talking about then one of the admins can help you out.

It's easy, if you are moving themes, just upload the themes to the other server and change the theme URLs in SMF Admin. Once the themes are all loading correctly, you won't need to worry about a thing. Otherwise, you should be using SMF 1.1.4 . If your old host only allows you to use up to 1.1.2, I'd recommend using your old host to host the theme files, and have x10 host your forum. x10 keeps their servers so up to date, that you shouldn't need to worry about compatibility ever, and you can even use SMF 2.0 when it comes out.

Yeah but the only thing is that x10hosting has been having down times. Like right now the website I have hosted on there servers is no longer working, I am getting the Thanks screen for Apache now. But all my files are still in the right spot and everything.

Once its back up I suggest moving it all to x10hosting. SMF 2.0 is running great but it will be a bit before it comes out. Putting SMF on two servers I think will multiply your problem; because if you have two servers running SMF then you have to worry about 1 of them going down. 1 down equals no forums anyway so you migh as well just move it all to one server.
