How do you set it up so that html files are parsed for php?

I created an .htaccess file in one of my directories and put "AddType application/x-httpd-php .html" in it, but now when I try to view .html files in that directory instead of loading the page in the browser it prompts me to download them. This happens in every browser I've tried.

I was only able to find one existing thread about this and the person with the problem said it started working correctly on its own. But it's been several days and mine is still doing this.

EDIT: I found a solution here:
