Perl error 500

I have installed a script into the cgi-bin folder and followed all instructions carefully. I have chmod all folders to 755 and files to 644 and added the first line thing as i have found in other posts but i still cant access my page as directed to. I get my custom error 500 page. Please help!

perl scripts should be chmoded to 0755 since you are executing them.
