PHP gd library not installed - cannot process images.

My site's been happily processing small images until recently. Now it doesn't work at all - echo get_extension_funcs( 'gd' ); returns nothing, suggesting that the image processing library isn't installed any more. This is for discussionator.exofire.net on the absolut server. Has something changed, and do I need to request an upgrade?
