php mail() function no longer working

Hi
I very rarely have a problem with my site running on x10Hosting, but lately it seems that php's mail() function has stopped working. This used to work perfectly when sending mail from my website. When I invoke the mail() function now, it spins away for maybe 40/50 seconds and then returns false and no email is sent. Is there something new I have to enable in cpanel or something to get this working again? Any help would be appreciated.

I should add that I am running on stoli. I see from other posts that chopin and boru have had upgrades but I'm not sure if stoli has. There seems to be a general issue of late with the php mai() function, judging by the number of threads reporting issues with email but many of those threads have no replies. Could someone please clarify if there is an issue and if it will be fixed.
