problem with adding content to my site

Hi guys i am having problems with adding content to my site. i used the program Personal Web Kit and i saved my files and everthing but then i go to upload the files and they show them in my public.html file but then wen i go to see my site at sspta.x10hosting.com it comes up with a thing that says index of/ and it shows wat is in my public.html folder. so i go and click on shortcut to home.ink and it says open so i click it then it just goes to my c drive under where the file is saved. so if anyone can help and maybe just check it out that would be great!:dunno:

You have to put the files in the www folder or in the public_html folder. If not the page appears like this. Maybe your index.html is not ok. check it

To me it looks like that when you tried to upload the files
- either all files are not uplaoded (though you are saying that these are there)
- Or rights are not proper. Check out what rights you are having on that

To find out just create a Test index.html file. Carefule to save as index.html (no caps anywhere) and that notepad is not appending .txt in end.

May be in note pad. Just keep plain html, may be like this.

Upload this file in your public_html and see whether it comes up.

In case still not coming up - try ctrl+F5 (to clear local cache if any).

If this works then the case is that your files are not uploaded properly. Delete everything and upload all files through some ftp tools like Filezilla.

By the looks you have the files in a folder inside the public_html folder... All files must be in the public_html folder. Not inside a folder inside the public_html folder. The files should be on a path like this home/username/public_html/index.html or index.php they can not be in a folder like this home/username/public_html/mywebsite/index.html or index.php.

ok well i got it working but i cant see the backround and the links dont work and the index of/ is still there. wen i click on the links it goes to a x10hosting page that says 404 error um if u know wats wrong now plz help me.

o ya and btw i used a program called PersonalWebKit not just type html

First off, rename Home.html index.html so it automatically gets displayed when the page is loaded.. and secondly the links work just fine for me.

Something weird: on your hawktalk page or w/e the link to hawktalk links to howto.html which of course, doesn't exist.
