Problems installing tikiwiki, and anything else

I've tried to install a couple of things, and have yet to get anything to actually work -- installation runs fine, I get the login information and page to go for admin setup, but when I actually attempt to go there, I get a blank page.

My focus is on getting tikiwiki setup -- it seems to have all of the features that I need to get what I need out of the site, but alas, blank pages.

Am I supposed to install the tikiwiki software in a special directory, or change some sort of permissions?

It is possible that you need to change permissions to the configuration file and other files. You should look at the TikiWiki documentation to find out if this is required.

If not, TikiWiki may use some functions that require v2 of PHP. There were some recent server upgrades and now your initial registration will only give you a very limited version of PHP. Most wikis probably require v2.. if you want to request an upgrade to PHP v2, go to your account panel, and scroll down to the bottom. Select v2, and give a reason for your upgrade request. You'll get a response within 24 hours.

Yep, the problem I had was with my version of the PHP offered by x10Hosting. When I upgraded, everything fell together nicely.
