Ok, I have tried to look it up on google but I found no info. When ever I type in 'regedit' and then press 'enter' from the 'run' window, It ends up coming up with a 'cmd' box where at the top of the box it has 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\regedit.com' but whenever I try and do a search on my PC for 'regedit.com' it finds no matches. Whenever i goto the run window and write 'c:\WINDOWS\System32\regedit.com' it comes up with the same windows as just writing 'regedit'.

Is this alright or is it some sort of spyware or virus type thing?

From a quick google of it, it looks like spyware.

If there is a process running for it (Such as.. regedit.com), kill it. Then get Adaware and do a FULL scan of your computer, not just the "smart scan" or whatever it is. See if that finds it.

I'm a programmer ;)

A .com file is a command file that launches the command prompt, much like a .bat will, but .com files don't execute batch commands.

a .com file is completely safe, don't worry.

If you need to access the registry, and typing in regedit in the run box doesnt work, there are two ways you can get into it:
1.) go to the run box, and type regedit.exe
or
2.) go to C:\ > Windows and find regedit there.

Good luck :)

It doesn't seem like it's a virus, but just to be safe, let's do a virus scan!! :bigok:

And about that, if it is a virus and you can't seem to get rid of it, you should do the procedure above while in safe-mode.

If you don't know how to rebot in safe-mode, you go to Start > Run > "msconfig" > "BOOT.INI" Tab > Check "/SAFEBOOT". Then reboot. THEN do all the virus scans and the dirty clean up afterwards.

For the last time, it's not a virus! It's a normal windows command file.

regedit is the program with the teal cube with some cubes missing/falling off.

I should have known.. Stupid me.

I know what regedit is, and I use it all the time. The ".com" is what threw me off. :-(
