Ok, this could go deep.
But let me scratch at the surface anyway.

Is it wrong to reinvent something?

I think using the wheel is a bad example.
Seeing it is something that couldn't be any better and has no flaws.
A better example would be the combustion engine.

Not to offend anyone, but I thought one-liners are not to be used in Crossfire. Well anyways coming to the topic, To cut a long story short...It is not a waste of time to reinvent something, but yeah if you just copy it then I'm sure its just a waste of time. Trying new things, experimenting with new ideas while you are reinventing opens up a whole lot a doors, and finally it might just end up being better than the original...

Depends on what you mean by 'the wheel'. Currently the 'wheel' is being improved on, by the 'thweel', and airless wheel! Plus, the 'wheel' itself has been changed drastically over time, i.e. radials, belted bias, and bias ply. Although the concept itself is still the same, it is still being improved on.

I encourage re-inventing things. There is always a better and more efficient way of doing something, just waiting to be discovered.

The wheel is really an excellent example. Think about all the different types of wheels and all their different applications. You're not going to stick wooden wagon wheels on a car. Just like you're not going to stick regular car wheels on a plane's landing gear.

Hao!

Reinvention is good, sometimes its hard to know how things work and it is best to know things when you make things yourself. Destroying stuff first, then rebuild them to make em better... COOL! Sometimes reinventing stuff makes add-ons to things to make em do so much more.

Re-inventing is very good, and I'll tell you why. Humans as a people constantly evolve. Many people would argue that we "improve", but I use the term evolve here to mean simply change. What worked for us at one time, doesn't now. It's sort of like the tele. Sometimes it's great to watch a show that's been on for 8 years. Sometimes, you just want a whole new show. You see, they cancel shows after 8 or so years because they say there's "nothing left" to cover, yet they write a new show, and voila...new stuff?

It's sort of like free web hosting. If some one could come along and offer really free web hosting, without signing up for a bunch of shi...er, stuff you don't want (and giving out your cell phone number...lol), actually offer techincal support (unlike a lot of free hosts), and offer decent service...OH, der, Corey done did that already. :naughty:

I like reinventing things because if you made them yourself its more likely that you will understand what you got there.
