removing image from background using photoshop cs3

Right.........

i've got aimage in a file which i want to remove and replace with a new image. I can remove the image using the lasso tool in photoshop cs3. But what i want to be able to do is get the background space i have removed filled the same as the rest of it, but im having difficultly any help would be greatful.

I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but here is a stab at fixing the problem.

select the ball with the lasso tool and delete it.
create a new layer and place it under your original layer.
use the eyedropper tool to select the background tool
make sure the new empty layer is selected
using the fill bucket tool click on the empty space.
that should fill in the hole made by deleting the ball.
merge the layers and you are done.

another idea is to use the eyedropper tool to select the background color and then use the paintbrush tool with a med-small head to paint over the ball.
