Uh, how come after I edit index.html , save, exit and log-out of cPanel, I am "forbidden" to access my "site", i.e. subdomain.x10hosting.com? This happens everytime I do an "edit".

Earlier, i edited index.html and it worked fine. Then, I did another edit, and the "forbidden" message appeared. I think I tried to write a thread about this earlier to have it fixed (I don't know if it reached anyone 'coz I'm still new to even being in a forum so I don't know how to check any replies). I tried to access my "site" again a few hours later and lo and behold, it was up!

So. of course, I excitedly edited index.html again to improve it, then the "forbidden" error appeare again; it's still there. So, why does this happen and what can I do so that it doesn't happen everytime I edit any .html files?

Thanks in advance to everyone who can help in advance!!!

Check the CHMOD of the public_html and try setting it to 750 if is different.

The permissions on your public_html file were wrong. I fixed them.

Thanks guys... The site's working now... Uh, if I upload files, do they automatically have default permissions? And do I have to fix these permissions for each file I create with cPanel or upload to the site every time?

Since the site's been fixed by Corey, I assume that whatever permissions public_html has are correct? Should I assign the same permissions for all files I write/upload to the site if I want the general public to view them?

Again muchas gracias...

All files that you create/edit/upload should have the correct permissions unless you modify them so that they have different permissions. If you want to know what each permission does then you can create a test page and change the permissions on that file.

You need to make a new post if you have another issue that is un related. this helps other people find the information they need when they're searching the forums for problems. The search feature is very handy if you have a problem and you think other people might have had the same problem.
