Setting up an IRC

Hello guys, When I was signing up for this excellent service, I noticed that there is also a live chat, but I don't think that it has been active. Since I don't know how the Live Chat is, I wanted to suggest something more universal like Internet Relay Chat (IRC), and with IRC I have seen many get instant support, so I was thinking why not set up an IRC channel for X10hosting. It would sure make matters easier, though there might be a problem of availability of site staff. But still......It can help the site grow :naughty:

I would support an IRC room for support. I sit at work all day with a lot of time to spare, and sitting in a room helping people wouldn't be too bad.

I have run IRC servers, IRC channels and have spent quite a bit of time just around IRC.

I think it would be nice to not only have support channels, but an x10 run IRC service.

Hmm, we did try this before. Definitely something we could look into again if people would use it, we are much larger now.

This might need a poll!

Livechat was a good idea until we got so popular. Going into live chat is suicide right now, so many people that can't spend 2 seconds to try to find info on their own asking 100 stupid questions.

And in an IRC channel, you can set it to Moderate. Have the AMs or SS as ChanOps ... granting speaking permission to people ... or help them in a Private chat. ( Almost like the Live Help Chat )

You dont really need that. This is a community and im sure there will be someone in the room at most times that could maybe offer a little support. Even if it may be a regular member and it happens to be a stupid question they could offer support. Obviously there will be a question a member cant answer but for those stupid questions poeple could help them or point them in the right direction to finding there answer. in the end this will most certainly be helpful. Thats even if people use it :\

I can offer a good idea, I saw on demonoid's, Either they can use their own IRC client or if they don't have an IRC Client...there is an option so that a built in java IRC client opens up. Here's a link http://www.demonoid.com/chat.php. But this is all possible only when you have agreed for the idea. I think it's a good idea to have a poll....

If there were to be a chat on IRC for x10, I want to suggest just having a single help channel on the larger networks. I use IRC myself, and I don't see the point of having a whole network dedicated to x10.
