I have heard arguments about how violent the game is. I have no doubt that Germany would most definitely ban this game, but the U.S. would probably not ban a game. If I recall correctly, there are not many banned violent games (if any at all). Those that argue that violent games influence violence has no proof. There can be a variety of outside factors.

What the censors fail to realise is that violent video games RELIEVE people's psychotic tendencies. Banning games just means they have to go out in the world to get that release.

I heard the game is brutal, but not that scary. I'm not interested in the Manhunt series, and I probably won't buy it.

I don't think it should be ban, but this game definitely should not be played by anyone under 18 as it is really freakishly graphic, lol

Despite the fact they lowered the gore, hackers have already unlocked and/or modded the content anyway. Kind of late to be banned..

If someone says that a game should be banned then the whole US Constitution should be burned. Like movies and books video games are protected under the first amendment. For this reason all those laws that these politicians have been trying to get passed so that state laws restrict selling of video games to minors could become a criminal offense are getting thrown out.

Honestly, I feel that no game should ever get banned, especially in the USA (so as it doesn't break any laws). When I see these clueless media reporters, brainless lawyers and politicians whose common sense is laughable bad mouthing video games and wanting them banned I can't help but worry. I know that this country is smarter than to listen to those losers but it bothers me.

It's a shame though that Manhunt 2 is just as bad as the original. To me they were just boring games.

I, personally, LOVE gory games. The more blood, the better. Bet like SilentKayos said, they haven't managed to make a single one that doesn't just seem like a bad slasher film.

It's actually the UK that's banned it (three times, in fact). Usually we get away with quite a lot over here, but just lately the censors have been going mad. Apparantly they have to cut the words 'sex', 'whore' and 'penis' out of scrubs nowadays.
Quite frankly, it's getting pathetic.

Well its the first game in 10 years in the UK to be banned. That doesn't seem like bad going to me. The sensors banned it for its merciless brutality, not its gore content.

Thing is, unlike in the US, it is actually ILLEGAL to sell a rated game to anyone under the age limit. So, you can't sell an 18 to a 17 year old.

In the US, thats not law, but is just taken as practice in many stores anyway.

Manhunt isn't banned at all in the US (that I know of), it was just given an AO (adults only) rating and subsequently, most (if not all) stores refused to stock it on policy. EFFECTIVELY banning it. The reason they do this, is because stocking AO games opens then up to all sorts of porno games. That may not be a bad thing to you and me (theres loads of porn mags in shops anyway right? whats the difference) games STILL aren't as socially acceptable as say, movies. And are STILL thought of as a childs passtime by many. The idea of porn in these kids games? Oh, good gracious no! So they block AO games from their shelves.

Germany however, ban loads of things.

Whether I think it should be banned is a different matter. And I'm honestly not sure. Censors have their place to protect both innocence and moderation. The idea that NOTHING should be banned is a bit ridiculous to me.

Manhunt doesn't really interest me as a game anyway. That level of brutality is a bit disturbing, in any medium. The idea that people could see this as entertainment, well, makes me question really how far the human race has come from its savage past.

Sure, there are plenty of movies that have violence and graphic realism above and beyond manhunt, and those aren't banned. Although, with many movies, the action is implied, rather than actually shown. With games you see everything. So there is a difference there.

I dunno.

I agree it is in the interest of free speech to keep everything open. However, you must think twice before you bring up a whole generation playing violent games. It has been warned by psychologists that kids tend to lose sense of reality after playing such games from childhood.

Care to provide a link proving this?
