SSI not working [solved]

I'm trying to make a page that uses SSI, just a little tweet like thing. I've ran across some problems. Using index.html and live.html (the file to include), it works on Dreamweaver. Using index.shtm and live.html works inside Dreamweaver but not on Chrome, when doing a preview. Best of all, uploading it and trying to check it online gives me text.
I know the coding must be messy and unefficient, I'm on a learning curve and it's not helping
