Ok, so I'm a bit embarrassed to say this, but after years working in web development I have now decided to start investing in more secure options for my client's websites although I should have been doing so in the first place, I'm now getting to it finally. Anyways, I was wondering how do I go about setting one up? How do I get the CSR?

NOTE: I'm pretty new to certificates such as SSL, so if you can provide me with tips, tricks, pointers to getting the best out of my security then thank you!

The current setup for x10hosting's free-hosting servers will not work with SSL (regardless of IP shared or dedicated or what cPanel shows) - x10hosting traded SSL for increased stability.

Just to add on to what bdistler said, there's a way of getting your website to use SSL regardless if the host doesn't allow it.
Cloudflare's Universal SSL (flexible) could do the job, though on the free plan only the modern OSes and browsers would support it (aka validation error on the non-supported). If you want full support then you can go to the pro plan.

If you prefer paying for SSL, you can pay for SSL and get X10Premium, which itself has many benefits.

that would give a SSL link from/to your browser and Cloudflare's servers BUT the link from/to Cloudflare's servers and your x10hosting's free-hosting server account would be unencrypted HTML

Yup. That's the closest method of SSL when it comes to (free) hosts that don't allow SSL on user accounts. Works pretty well too.
