When I try to install a mediawiki it comes up with the following error message:

Checking environment...

Please include all of the lines below when reporting installation problems.
  • PHP 5.2.5 installed
  • Found database drivers for: MySQL
  • PHP server API is cgi; using ugly URLs (index.php?title=Page_Title)
  • Have XML / Latin1-UTF-8 conversion support.
  • Session save path (/tmp) appears to be valid.
  • PHP's memory_limit is 64M.
  • Couldn't find Turck MMCache, eAccelerator, APC or XCache; cannot use these for object caching.
Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/alexmac/public_html/tutorials/mediawiki-1.12.0/config/index.php on line 1822

And then stops.

I have the intermediate version of PHP, but it doesn't work. I have been told that I should ask for a temporary upgrade to the advanced PHP version so that it works.

Please can I have a temporary upgrade to the advanced PHP version?

Thanks,
-Alex Mac

We do not permit shell_exec on the servers sorry. You will need to disable that part of your application.

Who told you to ask for the Advanced PHP? ... If it was one of the Admin staff ( Corey, Bryon, etc ) then apply for it. If not, you will have to have their permission before applying.

I applied a couple weeks ago, but tnl2k7 said I should ask for a temporary upgrade:

Hello Alex Mac,

Post in Free Hosting and ask for a temporary upgrade to advanced PHP, tell them you're trying to install MediaWiki and they'll help you.

That's what the user in this thread did:
MediaWiki
and he's got it installed now.

Yes I did, he's right.

Corey told someone to do it a while ago for the same reason, and it was accepted, then removed after a few hours.
