Can you have one Steam account per game? I'm not sure how the Steam system works though: I've never played any of the CS games.

Well Steam probably detected that you installed Source.. you'll have to switch between steam accounts to play 1.6 and Source because the CD-keys are linked together.

Thats why if you have an existing Steam account with a game, you purchase it online and download it so you can use one Steam account to play several games..

If I understand you correctly, you created a new Steam account when you installed CS:S right? Under the Games menu in Steam, there is an option to "Activate a Product on Steam." That is what you should have done when you installed CS:S, or simply used the account you already have when it was installed.

If I were you, I would check into contacting Valve and asking them if they could transfer your cd-keys to the same account. Try sending them an email with your steam account names, the emails on both accounts, where you bought both games, when you installed both games, explaining what happened and what you would like them to do(i.e. terminate one of the accounts and release the cd-key so you can play both games on the same account). Make sure NOT to send them a copy of your cd-key, or passwords for your accounts in any emails.

You may have to send in your CS:S cd-key to get a replacement, but I'm not sure. If you do have to get it reset, you can find out how to do that here.

Be as specific as possible in your communications. The worst thing you can do is to sound sketchy, they'll deny you flat thinking you're just trying to snag someone else's keys.
