Unfortunate 2

My friend made me a custom phpbb forum, in which I have to add sql tables to my db. I followed his instructions correctly but get either 1 of 2 errors while loading the page.

I get a 404 page error, as they are asking for the /install directory, but my friend assured me that the install directory was not included in the package in the first place because his installation method is completely different.

The second error I get is a Critical error. I replicated the error as to include it in this thread:

Now, I am not missing any fles, and I even had my friend try to set it up for me, but to no avail. He is on paid hosting from another host, and his copy runs fine there, but I can't seem to get this right. I will provide a link to the files in which he sent me, incase anyone can examin it and fix it, as I have no knowledge in php whatsoever. All I see are numbers and letters :dunno:.

I really would like to get this one up and running, and I don't want to use the plain phpbb2 because this one my friend customized has security patches and such. I am planing on starting a gaming forum, and expect a few hundred members, and after being hacked twice before on other hosts, I want to be as safe as possible.

It seems you haven't uploaded a language pack, please remember English, Spanish, and French must be available on your site.

As for that, contact phpBB, as they would be more specific to fixing this, we provide hosting support not script support.

The language pack came with the package. It is there, so I do not know why it can't be found.

Did you update everything in your database config; after moving hosts not everything will be the same.

I didn't move over the files from the last host. This was a fresh install done just this afternoon.

NOTE: If anyone checks my account, I deleted everything, including my blog and my database. Just wanted to make that know if someone make an attempt to install it for me. I made a backup beforehand of the home directory, so it's quite alright.

You just said your friend gave you a copy that he\she customized, now you are saying it was a fresh install, please, tell us what you did.

Yes, my friend gave me a fully customized copy that he made. It was fresh, not just some files he pulled from his host. In the file were instructions. I installed the forum using the same instructions on 2 separate hosts a while back. I was hacked within the first week because the hosts were fairly new and vulnerable. I asked my friend for another copy this morning and he gave it to me. You can kinda call them the source files as there were no configurations done to them before he gave them to me. All he did was patch some holes, added a portal and added some skins so I could have a nice, professional, secure forum.

I really do not think I would get much help from phpbb's forum as the software and installation methods for the custom forum and phpbb's standard builds are quite different. Therefore, I do not feel anyone there can help me. If I cannot gain any help here, that is just fine too. I would just have to find another host that is as good as this one that would allow me to install the software without any problems. Though, that would be quite tough on me, as I exausted my funds and have to rely on free hosting which isn't that reliable anyway. Apart from that, I have no more credit.

Is it possible for anyone try to install the files in the link provided in the first post on a dummy account to see if the problem persists. If it does, I will no longer bother with trying to install it.

Not to sound mean here, but ... if its a custom designed software ... why would you blame the host for it not working and not just contact the developer and ask them for assistance?

If its custom designed, then there isn't much we know about the software. Thats why many people here were trying to refer you to Phpbb's website. We are support team for hosting, and some of the members and staff are talented in PhP, HTML, and various other coding aspects. But, if we don't know how it was made or how it operates, we can't really be all that helpful in why it won't install properly.

I did not blame this host in any way. I blamed my last two hosts for their security issuse, and the software had nothing to do with it. Someone infiltrated my hosting acounts. Also, I stated in the very first post that my friend tried to set it up for me when I gave him my hosting info, as he was the one to create it, and he was getting the same problem as I did, but on his paid hosting from dreamhost, he has no problems with it. I even provided the readers with a link to the source files for the forum as so they could see if anything was wrong with them.

If I blamed x10 in any way, please point it out to me and I will make corrections, but I was very clear with my providing of information to you all. You could even check the forum files to see if there are any scripts my friend would've put in that may be restricted on x10, thus causing interferance with the installation.
