Hi,

I used a parked domain in order to access my 10host site through my domain.

However, I can also enter the old x10host domain address and access the site in the browser. This should not happen and it should give a 404, like blogger or similar services.

If I have put a domain to access the site it should be available through that domain only, not accessible through the x10host domain.

For example, my domain is "mysite.com" and my 10host is "mysite.x10host.com"

When I enter "mysite.com" the site is displayed. When I enter the second address there is a 404 error or not available.

As it stands both addresses are available.

Why is this happening and can you help me? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, I understand now.

Is there any option to do what I asked for free? Blogspot provides this option for free and at the moment it might be the only place where I can only use my domain to access a site.

Thanks for replying, sorry if I don't quite understand how domains and re-direction works. Glad the forum is active.

So I have added "Add on" domain, but it seems it is exactly the same thing. It makes absolutely no difference as the original x10host site is still available. To explain more clearly:

1) Created a site "mysite.x10host.com"
2) Used "Addon" Domain to only access the site through "Mysite.com"
3) Both "mysite.x10host.com" and "Mysite.com" are available. Both addresses will return my site.

Again, apologies for not understanding. Am I doing something wrong? The long x10host subdomain should not exist anymore and should either redirect to a TLD or return an error.

Thanks again for reading.

I see but both sites addresses are available? This should not be the case at all.

For instance, Zohosites allow you to pick your own existing domain, then completely delete the free sub-domain created (it has "primary" and "secondary" in the panel) so that your site is only accessible through that web address.

Ok, the original x10 subdomain now shows "Index of CGI/bin" and my domain is showing the site.

Ok managed to fix the problem by adding a custom 404 page.

Now it shows like this:
...
I think this solves the problem.

To clarify: x10Hosting used to allow users to change their primary (main) domain, but users had a nasty habit of using fly-by-night free domain providers that would vanish without notice and/or otherwise making their sites completely inaccessible, placing a heavier-than-necessary support load on the free hosting service. They stopped allowing users to change the primary domain quite some time ago in order to reduce support costs (both in monetary terms and in terms of the workload on volunteer support staff). That only applies to the Free Hosting service; you can change the main domain on Premium and VPS services as you wish, since you're paying for support costs.

Perfect explanation! I now understand that it is not possible to do what I intentionally envisioned on the free plan.

The problem was that I thought it was possible and I was doing something wrong, kept doing the same thing and got exactly the same result.

With the 404 page the subdomain still exist but at least I suppose it isn't showing the site.
